My project looks into air pollution situation in Maldives. Globally, there is a transboundary movement of aerosol from India during the winter monsoon season. 

 

Locally, as you step out from the Maldives Airport, you can spot a stack of smoke as you look toward West. This is the result of the open-air waste burning at the trash island, Thilafushi, the home of the solid waste in the Malé Atoll, mostly from the capital Malé, Hulhumalé and nearby resorts. The pollutants are being carried to Malé by summer prevailing wind. The project seeks alternative methods to utilize the organic-heavy waste composition.
